Alaska Airlines pet cargo and checked pets
Pets can travel in a climate-controlled baggage compartment: $200 each way per kennel (discounts within Alaska/Hawaii and for active-duty military on orders); dog + kennel up to 150 lb; subject to breed restrictions, travel date and temperature embargoes (often not above 85°F / below 45°F) and fleet restrictions; kennels over 28" not allowed between Hawaiian Islands; cannot transfer to other carriers. Pet Connect (Alaska Air Cargo) ships pets without the owner.
Snub-nosed breeds
From October 1, 2026, Alaska, Hawaiian and Horizon no longer accept certain snub-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds and their mixes in the cargo compartment, including Boston terriers, boxers, bulldogs, Brussels griffons, chow chows, English toy spaniels, Japanese chins, mastiffs, Pekingese, pugs and Shih Tzus, plus Burmese, Exotic Shorthair, Himalayan and Persian cats. They can still fly in the cabin if the carrier fits under the seat.
